A SUNDAY WITHOUT THE CHURCH

I was not well, so I did not make it to the church today. First time in my life, as far as I can recall, I bunked the church on Sunday!
I finally got up at 5:30 am after many hours of interrupted sleep. My watch logged 4 hours of sleep, down from the usual 7 hours I get on a normal day.
I was healthy enough to shower, shave, and dress. But the fear that the centrally air-conditioned church would aggravate my cough forced me to stay home.
I played my favourite songs on YouTube instead of the ones the worship team had chosen. I had full control over how I worshipped. Read passages from the Bible and preached to myself (meditated!).
Oh! I didn’t put in the offering because nobody brought the offering bag to me!
I stopped the service when my heart was full, and didn’t have to wait for the benediction when I moved towards the kitchen to make the coffee of my brand.
I don’t want to endorse what the American comedian Lenny Bruce said: “More and more people are leaving the church and getting back to God.” But there is some truth in his comic saying.
